Back From Florida

Wow, what a week it's been. I left home feeling happier than I have in a long time, and returned a miserable wreck. Traveling with my family, especially my mother, is very difficult. LDWS was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Looking back now, I think I overreacted big time. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to win it, but I hoped to make it at least through the first three rounds. I was part of a very talented group, and if any of the remaining participants were to make as big a deal out of being eliminated as I did, I would think they're crazy--because they're all BRILLIANT. So I'm pretty much over that, even though I would have loved to play a bit longer.

Anyway, for anyone who is interested: I bring pictures! Now, I got a new camera and lens JUST before I left and never got a chance to learn to use them, so these aren't great.

We took a few detours along the way. My mom and grandma wanted to stop in North Carolina to hunt for rubies. This was taken at a waterfall along the way. You can't really see me, but I'm behind the waterfall, in a brown tea-shirt that says Fitch.

This was the view from the balcony of my room in Florida.

These were our neighbors.

We visited Jungle Island on Wednesday. This might just be the cutest thing I've ever seen. He was just sitting there with his wing around her as they preened themselves and each other.

I also scored a lunch date there...

... and actually took a decent shot of something.

Now I'm back home with these guys. Draco is on the left; Coco on the right.

Those are some kick ass pictures. I knew there is something about the camera coming separate from the lens that makes magic happen. My pictures never turn out like that. I'm lucky if they're not blurry.

OMG. That's like brochure scenery from the balcony. Weird that there's no one down there! I *love* your lunch date. Long beak and legs with a body that looks like it got de-feathered. Adorable!

LOL, yeah, DSLRs tend to produce better quality pictures than point-and-shoot cameras. The latter are much easier to carry around, though.

I was lucky to get that balcony shot without any people in it. It was never packed down there, but there usually were a few people swimming or tanning. And my lunch date was shameless--he wanted to eat all of my food!

Love your photos! I can't take a decent photo to save my life. The husband does photography, though (has a very nice Nikon DSLR, and is quite skilled with it).

Also, aww, parrots! We just have a white and grey cockatiel. Would like a parrot, though.

Thanks! Photography is a lot of fun. I have a lower-end Canon. Does your husband do it professionally or just as a hobby? I'd love to see some of his photos.

LOL, my sister has a cockatiel. I get so angry at him because he makes a lot of noise and my Greys, who don't much noise unless they're imitating someone/something, learn from him. He whistles very prettily, though :)

Hi! Your pics are beautiful, and so are your feathered companions! (oh and lizards too! I love them!) Sorry you had a rough week.

Thanks! And it could have been worse, so I'm done complaining.

Didn't see your reaction to LDWS (assuming it was a post) - I've been offline for a few days. But I LOVED your drabbles both weeks, I'm really sorry to see you gone! I voted Most Favourite for yours the second week, and omg the shrivelfig drabble was HILARIOUS and awesome.

Great photos! I really feel for you - my family went on holiday this week and I emphatically avoided going with them!

Thanks :) I'm glad to know I got at least one vote.(Didn't ask for my stats this week--felt no need to know whether I was last or second to last, LOL.)
