We all love our favorite slash pairings, but lets face it-- it's not happening in the books :( I hate to see Harry paired with any girl, especially Ginny (I just hate her, for some reason), but if I had to choose, it'd be Hermione. H/H would be way more tolerable for me than Hermione/Ron or Harry/Ginny. However, it seems that there are WAY more Harry/Ginny fics out there! Is it because it's cannon, or do peopel really prefer Harry/Ginny?

[Poll #744431]

I can't vote in your poll. I despise both pairings. H/H is just too unreal to even be considered, and H/G has plenty of its own problems. It honestly has little to do with not really liking Ginny in the books (she's ok, but I don't think she's all that great thus far). It's more to do with the fact that Harry is so obviously not straight to me. At all. For whatever reason, JKR kept the books pretty de-sexualized up until 4 and 5, and then things just got really awkward for Harry. I don't know about y'all, but when I was 12-14 I thought about boys and sex a lot... granted, I didn't have a Dark Lord after me, but still. So, when she decided in the beginning to not include Harry thinking about sex of any kind, but especially not with girls, the opposite happens and a queered reading of Harry occurs. Sorry that was so long (and I didn't even vote) but really, I think canon Harry is a total (albeit probably unintentional) closet-case!

Then maybe the H/D pairing is not so far fetched after all ;)

I see what you mean, although JKR explained that Harry's not as sexual experienced as others his age because of his quest.

Actually, I don't think it is at all. Not just wishful slashing either. :)

JKR explained that Harry's not as sexual experienced as others his age because of his quest.

Yeah, I've heard her say that too, but I think it's a load of bull. She realized she forgot that Harry's a teenage boy. Quest or not, he's gonna think about sex. So, she made up some crap to dissuade people from a queered reading. I've had this discussion with non-HP fans (don't ask me why they listened) and they've agreed that Harry, by not being explicity hetero as a teenager, ends up queer because the reader's mind is gonna "go there" to fill in the gaps. That's all I'm saying. Unintentional or not, she left plenty of room for Harry being gay to be incredibly plausible, even with his sudden canon-het. I guess this is why I find HP slash so believable and appealing in the first place. It totally fits what canon has left out!

I'd rather see Harry/Hermione, but it's never going to happen. Sadly.

I, too, detest Ginny for some reason. I've always disliked her and even though Draco is my favorite character I would rather read Harry/Luna or something than Draco/Ginny. That girl just doesn't do it for me. ^_^

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's going to happen either :(

[identity profile] haltlos.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What about Harry/Luna - if I fancy one het pairing involving Harry then it's Luna/Harry.
H/G or H/Hr aren't my cup of tea even if H/Hr is a bit more interesting.

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I didn't think of Luna. I guess it's because when I read book 5, and there were no pictures of the girl who's going to play her in the movie, I imagined Luna as being fairly ugly.

[identity profile] haltlos.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
But Hermione wasn't the prettiest girl either. ;)

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
True ;) But I didn't read the books until after the third movie came out, and she was already becoming pretty.

i hate Harry/Ginny also.
Harry/Hermione is definitely the lesser of two evils
but i really cant stand thought of either one.
my favorite Ginny fics always involve her either getting dumped
for Draco or killed by Harry.
thats what i call a happy ending.:)

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've mentioned H/G in the first chapter of one of my fics, but she is going to get dumped for Draco :)

I don't really mind any of them, but I would have LOVED to see Harry/Luna in the books, it would have been sooo perfect imo.

I also don't see why people have such a hard time seeing H/Hr. I mean, yeah R/Hr is pretty damn obvious but H/Hr seems fairly easy as well. Although I refuse to align myself with any group who willingly calls themselves "Harmonians." *shudders*

I don't particularly have anything against Ginny, but I don't really see any plusses in her favor either. I could totally see her as a nice addition to the Trio tho.

And on a final note, I must say that I'm currently on a Cedric/Hermione kick. [livejournal.com profile] minisinoo 's Finding Himself is by far my favorite fic at the moment, and it's pretty much the non-slash I read.

Whew, long post, a bit.

p.s.

Your drabble-turned-fic is almost done, I think I'll be posting it today :)

Yays!

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, now that I've seen movie Luna, I do find the pairing intriguing. But when I read book 5 I imagined Luna as being ugly, and therefore never thought to pair her with Harry.

[identity profile] grey-hunter.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, if Harry should be with a girl, then it would be... Tonks. I think they could understand each other just fine. They are on the same mental age. :D And let's face it, her sudden infatuation with Remus notwithstanding, she is pretty cool. :D

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
OMG I can NOT see Harry with Tonks O_o

[identity profile] grey-hunter.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
:D And I can't imagine him with Hermione. Actually, I can't imagine Hermione with Ron either. They have nothing in common except they are all Gryffindors. And I dunno why I have this idea that Harry would be with an older girl/woman. I guess it comes from the time of Cho. How about Angelina then?

[identity profile] katze-boston.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not be cause I like Harry/Ginny (I emphatically don't, but that might be because Harry/Draco is my OTP, and therefore I probably shouldn't even bother voting in this quiz, but anyways...) but because I do like Ron/Hermione.

[identity profile] nicevenn.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really like it either, I'd just rather see him with Her than with Ginny

[identity profile] facecat.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry is obsessed with Draco. I don't care how many women get thrown in his path-the obsession is there. Hopefully JKR will NOT pair Harry w/any female and leave his sexuality to her readers' imaginations. And what great imaginations we have. So, finally getting around to it, I vote neither. Also by the fact that Ginny has done nothing spectacular to be noticed, she's just there, & Hermione is just too...., I don't know how to convey exactly, smart, bossy - she's in a different league entirely and I don't think there would actually be any attraction from her for either Harry or Ron. But as far as RL goes - I think Emma Watson wants Dan in a very big, bad way - no matter her "brotherly" protestations. And Dan? Hmmmm....just cause he gets caught looking down girls shirts....
OK - rant concluded. Thank you.
